BETWEEN THE POSTS    MUMBLES RUGBY CLUB            ‘BETWEEN THE POSTS’ October 2018 Welcome to Mumbles Rugby Club and the October edition of the monthly newsletter ‘Between the Posts’. It has been a busy start to the season both on and off the pitch, so read on and see why!   ALAN WILLIAMS and PETER HIXSON As you will be aware the club have gone through quite a traumatic couple of weeks, losing club Life President Alan Williams and club President Peter Hixson within a week of each other. The attendance at their funerals was overwhelming and the families have asked me to convey their thanks for your support, which has been so comforting at this sad time. Such large numbers are surely a fitting tribute to these great stalwarts of our club, true Gentlemen who will be missed.     ON THE PITCH After a disappointing start to the season there are signs of improvement with a couple of victories and close defeats where we have picked up bonus points. The boys picked up their first point of the season with a losing bonus point in a 17-22 defeat against Tycroes away. This was followed by a first victory 15-13 at home to Pontyberem. The first round of the Plate at home to Tumble proved the boys were back in business with an emphatic victory 55-5! So, it was disappointing to come away from Loughor with just a losing bonus point in such a close defeat 20-21. However, the first bonus point win of the season came in the next game, a 31-21 victory over Fishguard in Underhill, with the pitch in perfect condition despite 24 hours of constant rain! Next up is a difficult away trip to Burry Port who were promoted last season. Let’s hope the fine form continues.    The Youth have also had a disappointing run firstly failing to field a team against Loughor due to several dropouts on the eve of the game and then suffering a defeat at Vardre 10-26. Next up was Pontarddulais at Swansea Uni ground but the game was called off due to the weather. So, let’s hope they can get some game time when they visit Dunvant next weekend.   1st XV and Youth Fixtures for October, November and December 20/10  Burry Port (A)                                                            Dunvant (A) 27/10  Bye in 2nd Rd Plate Friendly tba                            TBC 3/11    Wales .v.
